When an teenage creates club a historic moment in a key European match against Manchester City, it inevitably draws acclaim and the spotlight.
In only his first start in the competition - and fifth game for the team - Thiago Pitarch made a strong impression as the fifteen-time Champions League winners claimed a 3-0 last-16 first leg lead at the Bernabeu.
The teenager, who also had his Real debut in the play-off round a few weeks prior with a cameo off the bench at Benfica, then assisted Los Blancos defeat the English champions in the midweek return to confirm a last eight place.
At 18 years and 226 days, the midfielder was the club's most youthful starter to begin two matches in the Champions League knockout stages, beating star Vinicius Jr's record by 10 days.
The midfielder is the latest to come through from the famed youth system and is quickly establishing himself as one of the manager's most promising young players.
He joined Real from Leganes in the summer of 2023, having formerly spent time at Atletico and Getafe academies, and initially featuring for the under-19 side, where he rapidly created a strong impression.
He progressed to the B team and it was in a friendly match in which they faced the senior squad, then managed by Arbeloa, where the teenager is said to have drawn the eye of the present manager, who took over from Xabi Alonso in January.
Spanish media would later describe the moment as "love at first sight," noting he stood out not only for his technical ability, but for the vitality, personality and drive he brought to the side.
During the pre-season of 2025, ex-manager Alonso called up the youngster to practice with the first team and gave him minutes in the warm-up matches.
However, it was Arbeloa's appointment that proved the turning point in his development as he was introduced as a late substitute in each leg against the Portuguese side that led to the meeting with Pep Guardiola's team.
"I've dreamed of this each night before going to bed, the very first time I started playing the game, every day you go to train and every day you have a game," stated Pitarch after his debut.
"I've just achieved my ambition with the greatest club in the world and in the best competition."
Given a first start in the Spanish league against his former club - where he spent several seasons after moving from Atleti in 2018 - he has kept his place for the next four as injuries to Bellingham and Ceballos created an opening.
Pitarch has taken it with performances that have defied his age and experience.
"He's a extremely fast player, and you can see what he's capable of," remarked Arbeloa. "He's incredibly dynamic, with excellent endurance, effort and mobility."
Pitarch's mentality has also stood out to his manager.
"His standout trait is his character," continued he. "He constantly demands the ball, and when pressed, he doesn't feel it.
"I realize fans might be surprised to watch him make his debut in a Champions League match, but he's playing because I had complete confidence in him to perform his normal game.
"He will continue to get opportunities with the first team. It's a pleasure to coach a talent like him."

Under Fifa eligibility rules, footballers may represent multiple nations at junior level without being locked in, with the ultimate choice only binding once they appear in a official full international.
He has played for Spain at underage levels, turning out for both the under-19 and U20 sides, and took part in the 2025 Youth World Cup, where La Roja made it to the quarter-finals.
Despite this, he has not yet decided to any senior national team, who are watching his rise with interest.
In a recent interview, Pitarch said: "I haven't made my ultimate choice so far. My situation is great with the Spanish federation, but I will reach a conclusion soon."
His situation mirrors that of other bi-national talents such as club colleague Diaz and Barcelona forward Lamine Yamal. While teenage Yamal chose La Roja, Brahim decided to represent the Atlas Lions.
At present, his attention is on making his mark in the Real side and repaying Arbeloa's faith.
He played over an hour in the two-one win at City, which sealed a five-one overall triumph and a last-eight tie with Bayern Munich.
He was replaced by another academy player in Manuel Angel underscored Arbeloa's trust in the next generation to help the club pursue trophies to come.
After his notable contributions to date on the Champions League, the midfielder is expected to play a key role in that.
"The manager handles me the identical way. We deal with it very normally. I attempt not to overanalyze it too much - I have to deserve my minutes on the field," he said following the win at Manchester.
