The New Animated Series' Introductory Sequence Chose the Wrong Critical Role Track

This latest animated series, the most recent animated adventure from Critical Role, revealed an exciting introductory sequence. It showcases our favorite group of outcasts, misfits, and criminals kicking ass and making their mark, while also hinting at several agonizing personal histories for key figures including the voice actor's mage Caleb, and another actor's orc warlock, Fjord.

All in all, the opening appears amazing. However, I felt that an element was lost in the song choice.

This sequence employs "Welcome to the Continent", a truly stellar composition composed by artist the talented musician. This piece originating from the official score of that title, the second release released by Critical Role Productions LLC's record label their music brand. It's a wonderful sentimental choice, and I suspect that devotees of the sequel series will appreciate its presence.

Personally, The Mighty Nein's opening doesn't quite capture the hype and excitement that accompanied the second campaign's live-play sessions. "It's Your Turn", written by musician the artist, became an immediate hit in my view when it was first revealed in that year, and it only got better when co-founder Sam Riegel added lyrics to the melody for the series' animated intro in the later year.

Including singing from Ashley Johnson, Laura Bailey, a co-star, as well as Riegel himself, the song was memorable and enjoyable. At the time, I hadn't even watched the second campaign at that point, but this was such an earworm that I still saved it on my device. This track that knows how to get you pumped before you start an episode of adventurous fun.

The Mighty Nein's opening with "Welcome to Wildemount" doesn't strike the right notes in my opinion. It's a grand piece of music, but based on my understanding of this party, I feel that its mood is somewhat mismatched.

Naturally, Critical Role has stated that the series will have a few changes and differences from the original live sessions. An adjusted mood for its opening seems to be among these.

The Mighty Nein will be available to watch on the streaming service from Nov. 19. If you can't wait until then, or wish to prepare to get to know the personas of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the actual play are accessible on Spotify and the video site.
