Texas Attorney General Takes Legal Action Against Tylenol Makers Concerning Autism Allegations

Judicial Proceedings
The Texas Attorney General, a Trump ally who is running for the United States Senate, claimed pharmaceutical manufacturers of hiding safety concerns of Tylenol

The top legal official in Texas Paxton is suing the manufacturers of Tylenol, asserting the firms hid alleged dangers that the drug created to children's cognitive development.

This legal action arrives a month after Former President Trump promoted an unproven link between taking Tylenol - also known as acetaminophen - throughout gestation and autism spectrum disorder in children.

The attorney general is filing suit against J&J, which formerly manufactured the drug, the only pain reliever approved for expectant mothers, and Kenvue, which now manufacturers it.

In a declaration, he claimed they "misled consumers by gaining financially from discomfort and pushing pills ignoring the risks."

The manufacturer asserts there is insufficient reliable data linking Tylenol to autism spectrum disorder.

"These manufacturers deceived for years, intentionally threatening countless individuals to boost earnings," Paxton, a Republican, stated.

The manufacturer commented that it was "seriously troubled by the dissemination of inaccurate information on the security of paracetamol and the likely effects that could have on the welfare of American women and children."

On its official site, Kenvue also mentioned it had "consistently assessed the applicable studies and there is lacking reliable evidence that shows a established connection between taking paracetamol and autism spectrum disorder."

Associations representing doctors and medical practitioners agree.

ACOG has said acetaminophen - the primary component in acetaminophen - is a restricted selection for women during pregnancy to address discomfort and elevated temperature, which can present major wellness concerns if ignored.

"In more than two decades of research on the use of acetaminophen in gestation, zero credible investigations has conclusively proven that the consumption of acetaminophen in any period of gestation results in neurological conditions in offspring," the association commented.

This legal action references recent announcements from the former administration in asserting the drug is allegedly unsafe.

Recently, the former president generated worry from medical authorities when he instructed pregnant women to "resist strongly" not to consume Tylenol when unwell.

Federal regulators then issued a notice that medical professionals should consider limiting the use of Tylenol, while also mentioning that "a direct connection" between the medication and autism in young ones has not been established.

Health Secretary Kennedy, who manages the Food and Drug Administration, had pledged in spring to conduct "extensive scientific investigation" that would identify the cause of autism spectrum disorder in a short period.

But authorities advised that finding a unique factor of autism - thought by researchers to be the consequence of a complicated interplay of genetic and surrounding conditions - would not be simple.

Autism is a type of enduring cognitive variation and disability that affects how persons encounter and engage with the surroundings, and is recognized using doctors' observations.

In his lawsuit, Paxton - who supports Trump who is seeking the Senate - alleges the manufacturer and Johnson & Johnson "deliberately disregarded and sought to suppress the research" around paracetamol and autism spectrum disorder.

This legal action aims to force the firms "destroy any commercial messaging" that states Tylenol is reliable for expectant mothers.

The Texas lawsuit echoes the grievances of a collection of parents of children with autism spectrum disorder and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder who sued the producers of acetaminophen in two years ago.

A federal judge dismissed the case, declaring studies from the parents' expert witnesses was not conclusive.
