Lindsey Vonn Confident of Being 'perfectly positioned' for Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics

American skiing icon Lindsey Vonn asserts she will be "perfectly prepared" for the upcoming Winter Olympics, after claiming a place on the rostrum for the fourth time in five World Cup events.

The 41-year-old, who achieved a milestone by becoming the oldest downhill World Cup winner, came in third place in the super-G in Val d'Isere on Sunday. This marked her one hundred and forty-second career World Cup podium finish.

Impressive Performance in the French Alps

Competing at the French Alps resort for the first time in almost a decade, Vonn finished the course in a time of 1:20.60. She was 0.36 seconds behind victor Sofia Goggia of Italy, with New Zealand's Alice Robinson securing the runner-up spot.

"I didn't quite have enough direction on the initial jump," the skier commented. "From that point on, I skied well. I'm satisfied with my run today, in contrast to in the super-G in St Moritz, where I was overly cautious."

This result was her second top-three finish at Val d'Isere over the weekend, having also claimed bronze in the downhill on Saturday.

A Remarkable Comeback from Retirement

Vonn ended her career in early 2019 as a result of ongoing knee problems. However, she staged a competitive comeback in late 2024 after a partial knee replacement.

With just over six weeks remaining until the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics, which are scheduled for 6-22 February, Vonn's form are timely.

She has one gold and two bronze medals from previous Games and is strongly positioned to represent the United States at the 2026 Games.

"At the Olympics, I will be fully ready," the athlete confirmed.

Aiming for Further Glory

In addition to her Olympic ambitions, Vonn is also hoping to add to the four World Cup titles she has secured over a career spanning two decades.

She presently enjoys a substantial lead at the summit of the downhill World Cup rankings and is sitting in fifth place in the overall super-G standings.

This season's World Cup campaign includes a total of nine races taking place before the season finals in Kvitfjell, Norway on March 21st, 2026.
