Ex UK Soldier Charged of Killing Kenya Female Shows Up in Courtroom

An individual has shown up before a judge as deportation processes commenced in the investigation of Agnes Wanjiru, a female from Kenya who was found dead near a British army base in the year 2012.

The accused Robert Purkiss, 38 years old, who is a native of the Manchester area, showed up in the Westminster court on Friday, and told the court he would challenge the extradition request. Reports indicate that he was arrested on Thursday night.

A detention order for Purkiss was authorized by a court in Nairobi in September. The prosecution told the Kenyan court that Purkiss had been accused of a single count, of murder, and that the government of Kenya would pursue his extradition to answer to accusations.

Purkiss previously worked as a army medic with the Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment, the army unit for the northwestern England, including on missions to Afghanistan.

The victim, 21, a hairdresser who had a baby daughter, disappeared after a evening out, and her corpse was found 60 days later in the grounds of the lodging where she had previously spotted.

Nobody had earlier been taken into custody or charged in association with her demise. His detention followed a fresh police investigation, which followed a exposé in 2021 by a Sunday newspaper, in which the media outlet approached several serving and ex-military personnel in the unit.

The probe has been led by Kenyan detectives, which, under a mutual defense pact, holds legal authority in the legal case.
