The British boxer Anthony Joshua has been discharged from hospital, local government spokespeople confirmed on Wednesday night. The athlete was caught in a vehicular crash in the Lagos area on Monday, a tragic incident that took the lives of two of his team members.
The sports star had been receiving medical attention while recovering from minor injuries, his management team had said on Monday. A government official, Gbenga Omotoso, announced via a post on social media that Joshua was judged healthy enough to leave and heal privately.
“The boxer and his mother were at the mortuary in Lagos this afternoon to say their last goodbyes to his two deceased friends as they were being made ready for the journey back,” Omotosho said.
The two men who died were named as Latif Ayodele, Joshua's trainer, and Sina Ghami, a performance coach. The official further stated that the champion was filled with sorrow and overcome with emotion over the tragic loss of his two trusted companions.”
His release from the hospital comes as the global fight fans had expressed its support for the champion in the following the devastating accident.
